The Shaping of Montague

Winslow C. Wentworth, a prominent citizen of Montague in recent decades, prepared this nice outline map in 1975 showing the original shaping of Montague. The bottom half of Wentworths’s map defines the portion which came from Sunderland; the old North Parish and the 2-mile addition. The top portion of the map, "Unappropriated land", did not have a governed status until it became part of Montague in 1754. There were three previously granted private land grants within that large tract - two "Bardwell Grants" and one "Hadley Grant".
