European made maps, such as this
1759 "Nova Anglia", did not always incorporate the
latest information. This map, for example, omits Lake
Winnepesaukee, shows a very short Connecticut River, and
still identifies the location
of "Norumbeag", a non-existent city on the Penobscot
River.
The unusual name "Almouchicosen" is applied in large
type to what is now Vermont and New
Hampshire.
