SAMPLE MAPS

Portions of some of the maps in this book are reproduced here. The first example is a portion of the an early New England map made before Hinsdale was established.  Prominent on this map are the locations of forts - sturdy wooden block houses which provided protection from attacks by the Indians.

circa. 1750  A New England map

The map to the right is part of the
1858 Map of Cheshire County, a large wall map which, for the first time, depicted all the roads in this area, and showed all the homes and businesses. This portion of the Hinsdale map shows the great detail provided.
