This is one of a series of detailed "fire insurance" maps. Fire Insurance maps have great details of use and construction so that insurance companies - located in distant cities - can conveniently assess the potential fire hazards. Click on the images below to see a few more fire insurance maps of Brattleboro 1891-1924.
North is at the top of this map.  Main Street is in the middle. The Wilder building is the lowest of the three buildings on the left side of Main Street, here labeled Browns Block. This map is not very legible,  but we can read "PLATE GLASS ALL 1st and 2nd FRONT" a notable feature of this building. "Furn." indicates a furniture manufacturer.
