The building labelled "J. Estey" is the first Estey Organ
manufacturing site. When this map was published in 1852,
Jacob Estey began his long career in the organ business. A
predecessor company, then owned by Riley Burdett and Edwin
carpenter, was
renting space in this building in 1851. Then, a year
later, Jacob acquired a half-interest in what was then the E.B.
Carpenter Company. North is at the top of this
map and Main Street, not labeled, is the north-south swath in the
middle. Bridge Street is the road to the river
and Hinsdale, NH. Mill Street is the small road we now
call Arch Street. |
