Estey Organ Factory Sites

on the Old Maps
Brattleboro's biggest 19th century business was the Estey Organ Company.
These maps show some of its history in the 1800s.

View of the 1st Estey Factory site - 1856 map
Jacob Estey was a partner with H. P. Green when the factory was producing its first reed organs in the mid 1850s. This photo appears in the margin of "McClellan's Map of Windham County, 1856".

The 1st Estey Factory site on the 1856 map
The 1856 county map has a detail of downtown Brattleboro which shows the actual location of the factory - "Esty & Green" - on the south side of Whetstone Brook beside the bridge.  This building, which burned in 1857, was also the site of Jacob Estey's plumbing supply business.  Now, 2007, this site is the parking lot for the Brattleboro Food Coop.
