A few random examples are below

The 1775 map was made (above) from a much larger map of the seacoast by Charles Blaskowitz.

The close-up from 1913 map (at top of this page) shows that Eldridge decorated his map with sailing ships.

Above is an unusual nautical chart of the Vineyard – showing ice formations in 1874

Notice how the westward edge of Gay Head is ice-free. (above).

The above 1858 map of Martha’s Vineyard shows all the Towns highlighted and, most importantly, shows all the roads and the house locations – with owner names! – throughout the island. This is an extract from the huge wall map of Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket County by HF Walling.

We also offer separate 1858 Town maps from the Walling map. For each Town we add a border and a title to make for an attractive framed piece.

BELOW is a “thumbnail” sheet showing the 9 Town & Village maps we made from the large 1858 Walling county wall map.

We have three “bird’s eye” views of places on Martha’s Vineyard, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. Bird’s eye views are amazingly detailed drawings that show every street and building in a village or city. (see below)
A good birds-eye, like the Edgartown one, will show the actual windows in each building.

Below is the Oak Bluffs bird’s Eye view. (Called Cottage City in 1890)

Our 3rd Bird’s Eye is this one (below) of Vineyard Haven in 1893, with harbor filled with ships. Look at the amazing detail in the close-up images here.

Below are some aerial maps of the Island.

The view above is Edgartown Village in 2001 – horizontal view. It is interesting to see the sand patterns in the water just off the shoreline. We also have a closer view of Edgartown (below).

The two aerials of Edgartown are from the 2001 aerial of the entire island, seen below

We have two development maps for Oak Bluffs in the late 1800s. The first, dated 1871 ,(below) is decorated with pictures of buildings.

This house on the left side of the map may be a design published for potential buyers. I wonder if such a house exists in Oak Bluffs.

Martha’s Vineyard also appears on larger area maps of the seacoast such as those covering the areas called “Vineyard Sound” and “Nantucket Shoals”. Below are a few of our prints.
The (above) print 1857 nautical chart excerpt (Taken from a larger map) map has some nice colors, though it has some discoloration from years of use (of the original).

The 1881 map above shows the triangulation lines used to accurately survey the seacoast and the islands. Surveyors measure the exact bearing to the same point from two or more different locations to get a very good “fix” on a church steeple or other point they could see from miles away.

The Des Barres map of 1779 is amazingly accurate for its antiquity. This shows the islands as well as the seacoast from Narragansett Bay to Cape Cod.
We have nine maps covering this area as seen below on a thumbnail sheet.
